Life is a Detour
The choices we make often determine the paths we follow.
A few months ago, I planned to attend the Wheels on 66 event in Tucumcari, New Mexico in early June. As with other 66 events, I hoped to hobnob with writers, artists and other road-a-holics. In April, however, I received some life altering news; I was accepted into the Master's program at the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas in Denton.
As a roadie, I was disappointed because I knew sacrifices were going to be made, i.e. cancelling drives along blue highways like 66. On the other hand, being accepted to UNT will enable me to not only be closer to 66 (2.5 hour drive from Oklahoma City), but continue to augment my writing, interpersonal and academic skills, as well as experience new things.
While my love for the open highway will continue to be a part of my fabric, once I begin classes I will have to keep the nose to the grindstone. That means being real selective as to where I go and determine the feasibility of whether or not I could even travel beyond an hour's drive. In a nutshell, work and being thrify will be my predominant activities. Nonetheless, I will continue to find ways of keeping up with my blogs and other writings.
For my followers, friends and family, God has decided to take the wheel and direct me towards becoming a better writer, roadie, friend and person.
Remember, live to ride and ride to live. Follow your dreams as they will direct you to your destination.
