The Plains of Colorado

Fritos dipped with sour cream or French dip with a glass of wine, beer or soda pop are sitting a top of the ottoman as the players to Super Bowl 48 are announced. The Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks are in New Jersey to battle for the claim to league supremacy. While I have never been to Washington state and hope to visit in the future, I have been to Colorado. However, the section of the Rocky Mountain State my truck roamed on was far beyond mountainous, but featured plenty of rocky thrills. The journey began in the Oklahoma panhandle community of Kenton, which caresses the New Mexico line and is the only Oklahoma town in the Mountain Time Zone.
After exploring the 123 year old community, I ventured north towards Black Mesa Canyon, which was a sneeze away.
Moments later, I realized I did not have the proper gear to go hiking so I ventured north and found myself at a fork in the road. I made a left and was lead to three states.
After soaking in the trifecta for a few minutes, playing "put your left foot here, you are in Colorado, put your right foot there your in Oklahoma, then turn around and shake it all about. Do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around and that's when I was in New Mexico." Got back into the truck and ventured into unchartered waters, unfamiliar with the area I soon found myself at a crossroads.
I figured if I was this close to a state I have never been before, as Doc Brown says at the end of Back to the Future Part I when Marty McFly inquires about Doc's bulletproof vest,"What the hell!" The next few minutes were filled with shaky nerves, gravel roads and picturesque scenery.
Then, the heavens opened up.
"Brother, you can spare me a tire." I have reached,
the home to some of the worst hit places in the Dust Bowl.
I did not drive all the way to Prichett, but enjoyed the panorama.
Unfortunately, it was time to head back towards Oklahoma and New Mexico, but there was still beautiful scenery and roads to enjoy.
County Road 14 was a pleasant drive in the heart of the Plains in the Rocky Mountain State.
