Trip to Six Six

Ordinarily I like to begin journeys early in the morning. It allows me to get a good night sleep and a full day's adventure. On Thursday, however, I decided to go home from work, pack up the bags, and head up US 69 to McAlester, Oklahoma (just below the half way point between Denton, TX and Carthage, MO). The energy of being cooped up at work combined with the desire to drive kept me awake the whole way. In fact, I may have gone further, but the stomach tank had other ideas. The journey began along US 77/I-35 until I hit Gainesville where US 82 became the new dance partner. After 30 miles Sherman put out the welcome mat where US 75 greeted me.
US 75 and 69 joined together. Across the Red River and into the Sooner State I went.
An older alignment of US 69 acts as the frontage road looking at what progress did to it.
I pass through various communities including Atoka,
before reaching McAlester where I branched off onto business US 69 a portion of the historic Jefferson Highway.
However, dark skies, and a little thing called hunger took over, so I bought a roast beef at Arby's and checked into AmericInn along US 69 where I watched ESPN's Baseball Tonight and got ready for the next day's adventure.
