An Old Denton journey

Anything that consists of a 15 mile trip or more constitutes an exciting adventure awaiting to happen. Last Friday, I decided to get out of my apartment and head west. A couple of weeks earlier, I drove to Lubbock. Along the way on US 380, I saw a sign that read "Old Denton Highway." I passed it up. This time, however, I decided to visit the "road less taken." Getting past the 380 and I-35 intersection can be a challenge, so when I got through the traffic, the load was off my mind. Twenty miles later, I found that infamous sign. At which point I took the turn. I thought about turning at 60 miles per hour. If I have I would have made the 5 o'clock news. Instead, I thought better. A couple of yards before I slowed down in the left hand lane. However, I had another worry, "I hope some speedster would not clip me." The victory siren rang as I successfully made the turn. For the next several miles I wrote down narrow and winding roads.
I felt like a conductor for the two-lane symphony. However, the brief journey ended on Main Street in Decatur. For a moment, I thought about visiting the community, but I decided to head back. I got onto Farm Road 51 before reaching US 380. Unfortunately, I turned west towards Bridgeport. Upon a brief panic attack, I decided the best way to calm myself was to go with the flow. I flowed so much, I latched onto US 287 North towards Wichita Falls. After about a half hour, I reached Bowie. Instead of trucking north to Wichita Falls or Colorado or Montana, I decided to turn back and head home. The ride along 287 South was smooth with the exception of a five mile stretch of construction. The Eagles "Take it Easy" got me through the slow up, then it was time to get onto US 380 towards Denton. The exit ramp led to a stop sign. Unfortunately, the traffic along US 380 did not have one, so it was a game of driver's roulette. If you go at the wrong time, BAM WAM, time to call the insurance agency or 911. Fortunately, I made it in a heap of time. My blood pressure came back to normal, and it was time to get some food and watch Leave it to Beaver reruns.

  1. I love road trips. My daughter and I are driving from So. CA to Ft. Meade Maryland over Thanksgiving. So many unknown roads.
