Hello Denton, pleased to meet you.
(The heart of Denton; the historic Denton Courthouse)
Moving to a new location is like a honeymoon, there are sites to see and things to enjoy. As I sit here on the first week anniversary of my move to Denton, Texas, it is time to look at my impressions thus far.
Day 1 The first full day in town involved taking a trip to the gas station and Arby's. While that may not provide a lot of highway excitement, it did provide a glimpse into the beauty that the new landscape provides.
After unpacking and taking the moving truck back to the U-Haul station, I decided to get the other truck filled up and get something to eat.
The drive along I-45, Texas 366 and I-35E was smooth. However, after acquiring my Godfather and his nephew's rental car for their journey back to Houston (they graciously helped drive one truck along with helping me pack the truck, along with my Godmother and two of their stalwart neighbors), the skies began to open up.
With winds speeding up to a crisp 45 miles per hour, things began to look shaky during my big day. Moreover, while the movers were helping get the apartment furnished, the heavens opened up. For the next half hour or so, rain took over as everything began to calm on the moving front.
After they left and I began to assess the damage done to the new apartment, I figured, get the essentials unpacked, then get out, and return the rental.
The drive over was smooth, other than the fact I did not trust my instincts, and as a result performed the u-turn ritual four times. While I was able to return the truck, however, there was another issue, how do I get back to the apartment?
I asked the cashier if there was a cab company to call, but she did better, asked a co-worker to see if they were available, and he was. The trip back involved learning about how this 18-year old from Corpus Christi was familiar with Rand and McNally, as he lived in several places, including Phoenix.
I got back to the apartment, got into my Chevy Colorado to get some gas. After driving down University Avenue or US 380, I caressed the new pavement for a few miles before settling at the Raceway station.
As I finished filling up, I looked around and noticed how lucky and blessed I was to be here. The dark blue clouds to the south and west along with the golden sunshine that came from the north provided a stark contrast that was absolutely gorgeous.
I drove down I-35 East to Loop 288. While I continued to enjoy the scenery, it was time to get food. I ordered a roast beef and a soda pop, came back to the new apartment put on My Three Sons and called it half-a-day.
