Sweet 16

As I continue my quest to drive along as many state highways as I can, I have found another in which roadies and adventurers ought to know about.

While I have not traversed the entire route (or as road-a-holics would say clinched the route), Texas Highway 16 goes through eccelectic landscapes ranging from the Hill Country to West Texas.

To the south, the road twists and turns and provides excitement to the casual and advanced roadie.

(Between Bandera and Medina)

(Part of the Highway 16 experience)

(Where should I go in Medina?)

I decided to heard northwest towards Kerrville

In Bandera, lucky number 16 (16th day of April is my birthday) can lead to exciting discoveries.

On the other end of the spectrum, I was heading west from Fort Worth towards Abilene. Along the way, I found State Highway 16 outside Thurber.

(Where do I go from here?)

I chose to go north where I found some diamonds in the rough along a stretch of another historic highway, the Bankhead Highway (in Texas it runs from Texarkana to El Paso).

(only hotel with the word Bankhead on it in the Lone Star State; lies in the heart of Strawn)

(A plethora of businesses operated over here including Andy Marine's beer joint)

(Similar to 16 in Bandera, it has a bit of a curve that will throw off the straight path drivers as they head out of Strawn)

(The Robinson School six miles from Strawn)

As you can see from Bandera to Strawn (albeit driven in spurts), Texas Highway 16 goes through ecclectic landscapes and road patterns. It is truly a blue highway.
