The road to my first book
As I sit here on Thursday evening shuffling between notes on the Meridian Highway and Houston streets, I realize I am in the midst of a special moment in my life. While I have gone through various subjects and proposals, the current topic about a highway between Dallas and Houston excites me very much.
Unfortunately, I cannot divulge too much information on the project. However, researching has put me into the depths of good roads, auto trails and various alignments of highway. It has transformed me from casual researcher with a passion for the open road to a man reliving experiences from another life. This transformation has enabled me to intake more and more information about the history of our highways. I feel blessed to be given the passion for the road.
I owe a lot of my passion for the highways to Route 66, without which I never would have become interested in older roads; Jim Hinckley for sharing his passion and opening my eyes to the intricacies of writing about my love; Dan Smith, a soon to be publisher of another historic highway in the Lone Star State, a man that has showed me how to really study the historic highway; the Bay Area Writer's Group, they have and continue to help shape my writing skills and everyone who believes in my ability to write and friends and family who are there regardless of what they thought of a career in writing.
And now...back to work.
