This weekend I took my first excursion to Mississippi. From Vicksburg and the Blues Highway (US 61) to the home of Elvis, here are some of the thrills from the journey.
Among the plethora or statues dedicated to the regiments of each state that perished in the Battle or Siege of Vicksburg
The R.H. Henry Bridge from 1929 off old US 80 by the Big Black River, east of Vicksburg
Old Highway 80 Bridge, which no longer exists as an active bridge.
The beginning of my journey from Vicksburg along US 61 and part of the Great River Road
The home of Blues legend Muddy Waters in Rolling Fork, MS
Biedenharn Candy Store, which is the home of Coca Cola's first produced bottle
Missouri was one of a couple of states that featured brother versus brother. This statue honors Confederate Captain Schuyler Lowe's Battery from the Battle of Vicksburg
Portion of the Natchez Trace Parkway, north of Jackson
The bed where a King was born.
