The slippery journey
Sweat pours down the forehead. The hands begin to cling onto the wheel. Memories of slip and slide across TX 114 between Seymour and Jacksboro, TX crop up into the mind. Seconds go by. Then the sound...beep beep. The back passenger door is open. The truck slowly gravitates to the shoulder so the problem can be resolved. Moments later, the truck veers back onto the lane and prepares to leave TX 114 west bound and exit onto US 377 for the final track back to Denton. After a couple of minutes, the traffic stops. The pellets begin to fall from the sky.
Traffic slowly creeps north as a bridge decorated with sleet and cars falling victim to Mother Nature add to this Hitchcockian trip back home. The traffic clears up, but the moist, creamy smooth tar asphalt continues to make the driver nervous as thoughts of black ice and Jacksboro, TX reach its apex...time to slow down. 30 miles an hour was the speed limit for the final 10 miles...Alas! Denton and I-35. Normally the interstate does not do much for the spirit, but it means it is a matter of time before reaching the manor.
After parking, I looked up at the apartment, saw some sleet, sighed. "Thank you God for getting me home safely."
Hours later,
P.S. Work was cancelled. Be safe, travel carefully and have a great day
